Fundamental Movement

Kindergarten to Year 2

For our youngest Cranbrookians in Kindergarten to Year 2, our Fundamental Movement Programme teaches basic movement skills traditionally associated with human physical activity. These skills include balancing, running, jumping, throwing, catching, skipping and hopping and are the building blocks for more complex skills that children will learn throughout their lives to competently participate in games and sports.

Some of these skills are not learnt naturally, so our teachers provide children with intentional opportunities to explore and practise these skills. These skills are then built gradually over a three-year period. The students also take part in another PE lesson each week.
