Wolgan Cultural Burning

Wolgan Cultural Burning

An educational collaboration between Mingaan Aboriginal Corporation, Bushfire Environment Management Consultancy, the Bathurst RFS, and Cranbrook School for the community at Wolgan Valley. Seeking to reconcile modern fire management practices and technology with the unparalleled First Nation Knowledge of Country, its ecology and the ways to sustain the balance of biodiversity.

Below is the Mingaan Aboriginal Corporation and their cultural burn on Cranbrook’s campus in Wolgan Valley; a circular cool burn to regenerate the ecosystem and a ceremony to respect the elemental power of fire. A wedgetail eagle, a totem of the Wiradjuri People, flew out from the escarpment to join the ceremony.

Fire training was conducted for Wolgan locals to help educate their bushfire affected community.
