Seeing Happy Submissions

‘What does it truly mean to be part of the Cranbrook community?

Your challenge is simple: capture one photograph that tells the story of what it means to be part of Cranbrook.

Your image might capture something that aligns to the themes:

  • Hope
  • Belonging
  • Connectedness
  • Inspiration
  • Community
  • Awe
  • Wonder
  • Curiosity
  • Joy
  • Pride
  • Kindness
  • Courage
  • Service
  • Friendship

The most powerful photographs often capture ordinary moments that reveal something extraordinary. The image can be a zoomed in version of something that represents something greater, abstract or full view – We are encouraging blue sky thinking when it comes to your photo.

How to take a quality photograph

Before you submit your image, think about these five tips:

  1. Tell a story – Choose a moment that communicates an emotion or message rather than simply documenting an event.
  2. Look for natural light – Whenever possible, use daylight and avoid harsh shadows or bright backlighting.
  3. Think about composition – Fill the frame, use interesting angles, and consider what you include (and leave out) in your photo.
  4. Keep it authentic – Genuine moments often create the strongest images. Avoid overly staged photographs.
  5. Pause before you press – Ask yourself, “What feeling will someone have when they see this image?”

House Challenge

Every photo submitted earns points for your House, with winning photographs selected for creativity, storytelling and how powerfully they capture the spirit of Cranbrook.

Selected photographs will become part of our Seeing Happy exhibition, celebrating the people, places and moments that help our community flourish.

Whether it’s a quiet act of kindness, a moment of teamwork, an inspiring lesson, a sporting triumph, a beautiful sunrise over campus, or a friendship that makes someone smile—we want to see Cranbrook through your eyes.
