In January, Otto Henry - Year 11 - competed in the Australian Laser Sailing Open and The Youth Championships. The Laser is a one-person dinghy and is about 4m long which was a big change for Otto after transitioning from the two-person '420' dinghy only four months prior to these nationals.
First up was the Open Nationals in Devonport on the north coast of Tasmania. Otto finished 5th out of everyone, behind the current male and female world champions. This result also placed him as the 3rd Australian to finish behind a Belgian and Japanese sailor.
The next regatta was the Australian Youth (under 19) Championships where Otto finished 3rd, qualifing for the team to go to Canada for the Youth World Championships in July. Otto has started training for this and we are extremely excited to see how he goes.
