Masterplan Update From The Headmaster - Cranbrook School

Masterplan Update From The Headmaster

18 Jun 21 by Nicholas Sampson, Headmaster

There is a growing sense of anticipation around the revitalisation of our Bellevue Hill campus as our long-term vision moves ever closer to becoming reality.

Whilst it has been a tumultuous year for many of us as the world continues to battle the challenges of Covid-19, the renewal of our campus continues to take shape before our very eyes.

I acknowledge and commend the hard work and dedication of the School's construction company, Richard Crookes Construction and the project team, which has worked amidst the pandemic's restrictions to advance our redevelopment project so dramatically.

The new Hordern Oval will be an iconic centrepiece of this stunning development – a fitting location upon which the School’s rich sporting traditions will be continued by generations of Cranbrook students.

The turf is currently being grown off site and will be transported to Bellevue Hill once this process is completed. This immense undertaking will involve more than 300 truck deliveries, transferring 16,000 square metres of turf and a total of 8,700 tonnes of soil to the School.

It will take up to 12 days to install the turf, weather permitting, and then require at least 12 weeks to bed in before it can be used.

Exceptional rainfalls in the early part of 2021 meant the turf farm was recently submerged beneath two metres of water, which obviously impacted the growth process. This has resulted in a minor delay in delivery of the Hordern Oval and subsequent completion of the project.

We remain optimistic that the redevelopment will be completed during Term 1 of next year and, whilst this delay is regrettable, I am sure that you share my great excitement about the remarkable facilities Cranbrook will soon have.

I wish to thank the generous benefactors who have made significant contributions towards this project so far and look forward to bringing you further updates as the realisation of our Masterplan vision inches ever closer to reality and as exciting milestones in this expansive programme of works are achieved.

With warmest wishes

Yours sincerely

Nicholas Sampson
