Start of Term Message from the Headmaster: Term 1 2023

Good Afternoon

I should like to warmly welcome all our families, both new and returning, to the 2023 School year and sincerely hope that this message finds your family fully rested from the summer break.

Cranbrook is a wonderfully distinctive place and we are very fortunate to have such a strong and supportive community around us. I am delighted to welcome all our new families to the fold and very much look forward to meeting you at one of the many events planned for the year ahead, whether through our Academic teams, or at any of the series of events arranged by our vital and dedicated Cranbrook School Parents’ Association (CSPA) and the Foundation.

We embark upon this new academic year with a strong and enthusiastic sense of purpose. The School is in great health and there is much to look forward to. Amidst the opening of new facilities last year, the recent graduation of our first cohort of IB Diploma students and our pathway towards coeducation, our campuses radiate an eager and excited energy and a strong sentiment of focus and productivity.

Our priority as a School remains to educate and prepare our students with kindness and care for a world where many challenges will await them, and we are delighted that we have retained the vast majority of our high-quality teaching staff in this endeavour as we also warmly welcome our newest members of staff who join us from a wide variety of backgrounds – national, international, single sex schooling and coeducational, private and public. These backgrounds are so vital as we continue to move forward in our quest to become a diverse and truly world-class School.

The everyday life of our School fills us all with expectation, commitment and optimism and it remains our continuing privilege to share this with you as we work to inspire, protect and lead the students in our joint care. Supporting us in this endeavour, I should like to thank the new commencing School Council members who will work with us upon the governance of the School.

At the end of last year we began the process of updating our Perkins Building on the Senior School campus. This holds Music teaching and rehearsal spaces, and this work will continue throughout the first semester. Whilst disruption will be kept to a minimum, I do very much appreciate your ongoing patience as this important renovation reaches completion in our second semester.

Many of you will have read our exceptional HSC results released on 15 December last year; reflecting both the diverse academic strengths of our students but also the immense dedication of our passionate and talented teaching staff. These results were swiftly followed on 3 January by the results of our first Cranbrook cohort of IB Diploma students, who demonstrated an outstanding level of academic rigour and resilience in embarking on this journey with us in our inaugural year of the IB Diploma Programme. Twenty-four Year 12 students sat these examinations with wonderful results. Please click here or on the image below to read Cranbrook’s HSC & IB Diploma Programme Academic Results 2022.

As we move towards enrolling girls into the School in 2026, should you be interested in a place for your daughter, please visit the website for further information or contact our Admissions team via Enrol@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au, or call 9327 9000.

I should like to thank you for your continuing support: I do hope that you enjoy the remaining days of this holiday period and very much look forward to welcoming all our students back onto campus for the start of the academic term.

With warmest wishes
Yours sincerely

Nicholas Sampson
Headmaster
