Tournament of Minds is an activity that builds skills in:
- problem solving
- creative thinking
- teamwork
- communication.
Schools across Australia participate in regional competitions to solve an open-ended challenge in either:
- Language/Literature
- Maths/Engineering
- or Social Science.
Each team of seven students has five weeks to devise an answer to the challenge and teams compete on Tournament Day in August to present the best and most original solution. The students must also respond to a spontaneous challenge with only three to five minutes preparation time.
Participating in Tournament of Minds helps students to develop:
- lateral thinking skills
- scriptwriting and dramatic skills
- teamwork
- creativity.
It includes using intelligent behaviours such as:
- persisting
- thinking flexibly
- creating
- innovating
- imagining.
Students from Years 7 - 10 are eligible to join the training squad.
