The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an international leadership-in-action program and is available to all young people aged between fourteen and twenty-five. Students at Cranbrook may attempt Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

Participation in the scheme is:

Rafting for Duke of Edinburgh
  • voluntary
  • flexible
  • non-competitive
  • balanced
  • progressive
  • challenging
  • enjoyable

and provides an opportunity for students to:

  • achieve personal excellence
  • build self-esteem
  • build self-confidence
  • build self-reliance
  • build self-motivation
  • increase their respect for others

through their involvement in service, skill, physical recreation and expedition activities.

Participants undertaking the Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award are also expected to complete a Residential Project.
