It is important for all students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to manage their lives in the ever-changing world of work. The Cranbrook Careers Education Program proposes that students will come to recognise the value of self-knowledge in relation to career decision-making. They will develop the capacities needed to become skilled, critical and informed decision-makers in the context of their own careers.

This will be achieved by students knowing:

  • about self in relation to work
  • about the world of work
  • how to make career plans and decisions
  • how to implement career decisions and manage work transitions.

The aim of the program is to encourage each student to take control of his life by presenting him with a number of options to suit his interests and abilities. The central part of the program is the establishment of a profile of each student that is regularly updated during his final years of secondary schooling. The process is carried out in a non-threatening environment through initial and follow-up consultations to determine the student' post Cranbrook study and career plans.

In the main, the most successful students are those who have specific goals, and are consequently both motivated and focused. It is the aim of the Careers Counsellor to assist students in the establishment of these goals.
