St Mark's and St Michael's Pre-schools were established in parish church halls by Cranbrook School in 1944. They are co-educational, community-based pre-schools.

Both pre-schools are licensed by the Department of Community Services and enrol 40 boys and girls aged three to five, each day.

Children at both pre-schools may attend two days (Thursday, Friday), three days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) or five days (Monday to Friday) subject to availability and vacancies.

A Teaching Director, a teacher and two childcare workers staff each pre-school. Currently, our support teacher attends two mornings at each pre-school, and our music teacher attends twice a week for group music sessions. A Visual Arts teacher visits each pre-school twice a week to work with the children.

The philosophy of the pre-schools is based on the belief that parents and staff can work together to provide the best possible foundation for a child's growth and development. We believe that pre-school should be an extension of the family unit. We encourage parents to participate in the pre-school program according to their own needs, interests and opportunities.

Early childhood is the formative period of a child's development. During these years, language, skills, attitudes and concepts are developed within each individual child.

The pre-schools endeavour to provide an environment that is secure, warm, caring and positive. Educational activities are provided to stimulate imagination, creativity, decision-making and the development of language and expression.

Our program aims to enhance the development of physical, cognitive, social and life skills. Emphasis is placed on each child as an individual and the nurturing of positive self-esteem in order for each child to reach their full potential.

The pre-schools are licensed to operate between the hours of 8.45 am and 2.45pm, and follow the four term system with Cranbrook School holidays.
