Assemblies

Junior School assemblies are held every Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm in the Multi-purpose Room. Assemblies feature performances or presentations by students, the awarding of Merit Cards and other awards, the singing of The National Anthem and the School Song, bible readings and talks, and occasional visits from Senior School students and other members of the community. Assemblies are important occasions for the celebration of student achievement and School culture. Parents are always most welcome to attend.

Tuckshop procedures and food policy

Students may bring their lunch to School or they may write out an order for the Tuckshop before School on the paper bags provided in the classroom. The correct money is to accompany the order. A Tuckshop price list is sent home with each student at the beginning of each term. Junior School students are not permitted to buy directly from the Tuckshop at any time. No sweets are sold.

The Junior School has implemented a Nut-free Policy in order to minimise the risk of life-threatening allergic reactions to students in the School with severe allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. Peanut butter, Nutella and foods that contain nuts or that may contain traces of nuts should not be included in any student's food intake while at School. This includes birthday cakes and the like brought in for students' birthdays. The School Tuckshop will not provide food to any Junior School student that contains nuts or that may contain traces of nuts. In addition, the Tuckshop will take steps to minimise the risk of cross-contamination of food for Junior School students with edible nut products.

It is possible to provide very healthy and nutritious food to children and avoid nut products. We suggest fresh fruit, chopped raw vegetables and sandwiches with fillings of cold meat, fish, eggs, salad, cheese, vegemite, honey and jam. A large range of specialist products that do not contain traces of nuts has been identified, and is regularly updated and distributed to parents.

Contacting the School

Parents are welcome to make appointments to discuss their son's development. They are encouraged to make contact with the School if they have any questions about the School's program. Parents wishing to make an appointment with a teacher or the Head of Junior School should contact the School Secretary.

Absences

Students are required by law to attend school from the first day to the last day of term including Speech Day. They must be present at School each school day for the entire duration of the school day.

On the day of absence the parent/guardian is required to telephone the Dickins House Secretary before 9.00am or the Junior School Secretary before 8.30am to report their son's inability to attend School on that day and the reason for his absence. Notes addressed to Director of Early Learning or the Head of Junior School giving the dates and explaining the reason for absence must be given to the class teacher on the day the student returns to School. All notes must clearly state the student's name.

Messages or visiting the School

Please endeavour to communicate all necessary messages and reminders to your son prior to the commencement of School each day. It helps to write specific changes to routine in your son's Homework Diary. However, if emergencies arise, and it is necessary for you to convey a message to your son, please do so via the Junior School Office. Please note that it is usually impossible to convey such messages to boys after 12:30pm on Fridays and often difficult after lunch every day.

If it is necessary for you to visit the School with a message or equipment etc. for your son, it is imperative that you go directly to the Junior School Office in the first instance.
