As you are probably aware from media reports, yesterday at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, evidence was given by a teacher regarding historical events from the 1970s and the circumstances of his departure in 2004 from Geelong Grammar School.
In the course of that evidence, reference was made to me as Principal at that time, which was shortly before my scheduled return to England to take up another position.
I have been asked to attend the Royal Commission later this week where I will have the opportunity to give evidence about the matters raised yesterday.
In those circumstances, as I am sure you will appreciate, it would be inappropriate for me to say anything further at this stage. However, it is my intention to provide the school community with the facts about these matters once I am in a position to do so.
I regret that I cannot give you more information at this time, but it is important that I respect the process being undertaken at the Royal Commission and I thank you for your understanding
However, let me assure you that the safety of children in my care has always been my paramount consideration.
