Enrolment

What are the intake years at Cranbrook?
The intake years, which involve the formation of a new class or classes, occur for pre-school, Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 7. Offers of places for pre-school and Kindergarten are made in the year before enrolment and for Year 3 and Year 7 up to two years and six months before enrolment.
Can my son be on a waiting list to enter Cranbrook in a non-intake year?
Your son can be placed on a wait list to enter Cranbrook in a non-intake year, for example, Year 4 or Year 5. Places become available in non-Intake Years on a casual basis only, due to current students leaving.
How old does my son have to be to attend Pre-school or Kindergarten?
The pre-schools, St Michaels and St Marks, accept both boys and girls when they are three years old by 31 March in the year of entry. Entry to the Kindergarten class is available to boys who will be five years old by 31 March in the year of entry.
What is the fee to apply at Cranbrook?
The application form must be accompanied by a cheque for $300 being a non-refundable registration fee.
Does Cranbrook offer boarding places?
Boarding places are offered at Cranbrook from Year 7 onwards. Boarding provides Cranbrook boys with a strong, supportive home in an educational environment. There are two boarding Houses, Rawson and Street, which together care for 98 boys. Both Houses have been renovated to provide very comfortable living and study quarters. Each House is led by a Housemaster, his wife and several resident Tutors.
Can I defer my son's entry to Cranbrook or bring forward his enrolment to an earlier year?
An application can be DEFERRED to later years and the original application date is retained for all subsequent waiting lists. If the applicant has already accepted a place for entry to Cranbrook, notice of deferral must be received in writing at least two terms before the proposed date of entry.

An application can be BROUGHT FORWARD to an earlier year, but the applicant joins the list according to the date the change is requested.

How early do I need to enrol my son at Cranbrook?
We urge you to complete and return an application form as soon as possible - the earlier an application is received the greater the chances of securing a place. However, it is almost never too late to apply because casual vacancies can suddenly arise due to current students leaving and due to deferments by those who have accepted places.

Is my son tested before being offered a place?
Cranbrook is a non-selective boys' School. The Director of Early Learning (K-2 entry), the Head of Junior School (3-6 entry) and the Director of Admissions (7-12 entry) conduct interviews prior to offering places but these involve no formal testing. An Assessment and Orientation Day is held for boys definitely entering Senior School. However, the results of these assessments are used for class allocation only and not in the determination of suitability for entry to the School.
