Cranbrook in the Field (CITF)
Since 1970 the School has been involved with Outward Bound Australia in operating a series of outdoor education programs for Years 7–10. The Outward Bound School supplies equipment and specialist instructors. Students are divided into groups of 17 to 20. Each group is led by a Cranbrook staff member and an Outward Bound instructor. A member of staff oversees each year group program in liaison with Outward Bound Australia.
Each program varies but includes bush walking, rock climbing, ropes courses, navigation, canoeing and abseiling. Technical aspects and logistics are organised by instructors from the Outward Bound Australia. Academic work is linked to the program.
Year 7 and 8 programs take place in the ACT within easy driving distance of Outward Bound Australia's national base at Cuppacumbalong on the Murrumbidgee River. Year 9 travels to the Snowy Mountains River National Park near Buchan in Victoria. The Year 10 course is held in the northern Kosciusko National Park in New South Wales. Voluntary courses such as advanced abseils and overseas trips are offered to Senior boys.
